What kinds of health impacts are associated with exposure to EMF?
The Heartland Project Team believes there is no increased health risk from exposure to power frequency EMF at the levels typically produced by power lines, house wiring or electrical appliances, as long as induction effects are properly managed. This is the consensus view held by large health organizations, such as Health Canada, the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Radiation Protection Committee and the World Health Organization. Their conclusions are based on their review of the broad range of available literature and studies related to EMF and possible adverse health effects. After more than 30 years of research that includes thousands of studies and reviews by various parties, none of the international health agencies has concluded that exposure to EMF from power lines has been demonstrated to cause any long-term adverse effect to human health, and none has recommended that the general public take steps to limit everyday exposure to EMF.
