If you want a show that lasts all summer, I’d suggest annuals. Pansies are nice, but they burn up in the hot summer sun we get (I’m from Mid-Michigan too!) in July and August. I think the best show out there are petunias. Get a few carpet or “wave” petunias and you’ll fill a bed quite nicely. There’s also a great many colors to chose from. You’ll need to keep them watered in the dry, summer months but they’re a little more durable than some of the other annuals. Other good showy full sun annuals are marigolds, geraniums, snapdragons, and zinnias. Hope this helps!
