I would think the costs would be minimal. You’ll only have to get one case to make enough money to pay for some business cards and a black cane. Of course, it will help your cause if you actually solve the case. I can’t see that you would have a problem with that. After that, the payments will be gravy. I’m afraid that you might run into some difficulties with the child labor laws, using your children as detectives. You will probably have to front the operation and use your children only at night, or you could say that you can’t find a sitter, and take them with you on all your jobs, and secretly let them do all the investigating. But this could cause some suspicion and even possibly trouble with the child welfare people. You don’t say how old they are, but if they are small, you might be able to disguise them as dogs.
