For an inexpensive approach, we recommend collecting soil moisture samples in heavy-duty aluminum foil packets. Place the sealed aluminum foil packet in a zip-loc-type plastic bag to minimize evaporative moisture loss. Label each packet – both the foil and the plastic bag – with the date, time, and location of the sample.
