What kinds of carbohydrates and oils are used in Complan products?
The oil in Complan is palm olein oil, a ‘fraction’ of palm oil. It is a vegetable oil, which provides a suitable level of essential fatty acids and is more stable than other very liquid oils (e.g. soy oil can go rancid very quickly). The carbohydrates are a blend of lactose, maltodextrin and glucose syrup, with some sucrose and dextrose in some flavours. Maltodextrin (derived from maize) is not as sweet as lactose or sucrose, so balances the flavours. It may also give a feeling of fullness to the consumer.
