What kinds of biometric technologies are there?
Many different types of biometric technologies are in use or in development. The most common approaches use: fingerprints, voiceprint, hand geometry, face recognition, iris scans, palm recognition, handwriting and signature analysis. Some of the more novel proposed approaches include: walking and running (gait), nasal width and naso-labial angles, earlobe capillary patterns, and even eye movements. Virtually any quantifiable biological process or state is fair game in the pursuit of finding a universal, distinct, permanent, and collectable biometric characteristic.
