What kinds of animals are found in the Daintree rainforest of Australia?
Daintree is in Queensland, Australia and more specifically, far north of Cairns. It is, I believe, the largest continuous range of rain forest on mainland Australia. It was nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the late Eighties. It is the oldest rain forest in the world and has an incredible range of flora and fauna. For instance, it hosts 13 species of birds that are not found anywhere else in the world including the purple peppered pecker / squabbler which is the most endangered and/or rarest species in the world. Only three are left and they live in Daintree. Likewise, it is home to mammals not to be found elsewhere on Earth including rat and tree kangaroos, green and ringtail possums, rare forms of bats and marsupials etc. Here are a couple of web pages that should help you gain some insights into this breathtaking region of the world.
