What Kinds of Agreements Are Reached in RJ Conferences?
In the Australian conferences previously tested by the University of Pennsylvania and the Australian National University, the agreements the victims requested usually involved activities in the community rather than direct reparation to victims themselves. Victims often preferred that offenders donate money to charity or provide community service of some kind. Offenders often undertook far more extensive work or gave more money under agreements reached in RJ conferences in Australia than they were required to by penalties imposed in courts without RJ meetings.
