Several articles have been written in the IHMM newsletter outlining the certification process which requires 16 points in 5 years. The October 1995 issue has a complete outline of how to earn points. Activities can consist of • active employment in the field (2 points per year) • membership in ACHMM (1 pt/yr) • ACHMM national or chapter officers or subcommittee membership (2 pts/yr) • active participation in related professional organizations (up to 2 pts/yr) • new papers presented or articles/books written (2 pts/yr) • attendance at seminars, workshops, and conferences dealing primarily with hazardous materials management (0.25 pts/4 hrs class time) • college level courses (0.75 pt/semester credit) • submission of two acceptable exam questions (1 pt) • proctoring an exam (0.5 pt max/recertification period) • new professional certification/registration (6 pts/recert. period) • and others.
