What kinds of actions can be coordinated?
Coordination brings to one court two or more “civil actions sharing a common question of fact or law [that] are pending in different courts.” (Code Civ. Proc., 404; italics added.) The statutory reference to “different courts” means courts in different counties. Distinct from coordination is the process of consolidation. Consolidation is the procedure for uniting separate actions involving common questions of fact or law that are pending in the same county. (Code Civ. Proc., 403, 404, 1048(a).
