What kinds of absences qualify for FMLA leave?
An employee can take leave for: • The birth of a child; • The placement of a child for adoption or foster care. • The care of a spouse, child, or parent (“family member”) who has a serious health condition; • The employee’s own serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform the functions of the employee’s position; or • A qualifying exigency arising out of a family member’s active duty in the Armed Forces.
