What kind of trees loose their leaves in autumn?
There are two broad types of trees. Deciduous trees include oaks, maples, ash, elm, and other trees that have what are considered leaves. Conifer trees include the pines and are characterized by their needle type leaves. Both types lose some or all of their leaves in autumn. The leaves of deciduous trees die in autumn and most of them fall to the ground. Some species retain their dead leaves until late winter or early spring, even though they are dead. Many of the oaks are famous for this trait. It means leaf raking in both the fall and the spring. Conifer (pine) trees lose a lot of their needles every fall, but they also retain a lot of live needles through the winter. The tree goes dormant in winter and the green needles are ready for the first warm days of spring. Good luck with your search for information.
