What kind of treatment is given for sore throat?
1. If your sore throat is severe and white patches are present in the back of the throat (possible strep infection), then a doctor appointment will be advised. 2. If you have other symptoms, such as excessive tiredness that is lingering, swollen or sore glands, and possible tenderness in the left side of the abdomen, a doctor appointment may be needed. 3. If your sore throat is caused by congestion and draining sinuses, then a decongestant may be advised along with Tylenol or Ibuprofen as advised on label. 4. Recommended for any sore throat: gargling with warm salt water (1 teaspoon per 8 ounces of water) every 3-4 hours; sucking on hard candy or lozenges; drinking plenty of fluids; taking Tylenol or Ibuprofen as advised by the label instructions; and getting some extra rest.
