A notification has an identity and can contain a list of values of object instances. Each notification type is defined with the NOTIFICATION-TYPE construct in SMIv2 or the TRAP-TYPE construct in SMIv1 (which is now historical). Usually, a MIB designer creates notification definitions that correspond to events that occur on a managed device and could be significant to a manager.
