What kind of training is required for an electrician to be certified by the State of Washington?

There are many levels or categories of electricians. For the type of service and repair provided by our company, only electrical journeymen are permitted. This means that a combination of electrical theory/code requirements and on-the-job training is required. Once an application for electrical trainee is obtained, they need to obtain 4,000 hours of hands-on experience. Once that is attained, they need to pass a test to qualify as a residential journeyman. If an electrician would like to be certified as a general journeyman, then 8,000 hours of on-the-job training is required as well as passing of another test. We employ only residential and/or general journeymen. These electricians are also required to keep up with the ever changing electrical codes, both national and state required, by taking and passing continuing education courses every two years.
