The JET Programme sponsors several conferences and training sessions throughout the year: Pre-departure Orientations Before departing for Japan, successful candidates receive written materials about the Programme along with a Japanese language text and tapes. Pre-departure orientations take place at embassies and consulates of Japan prior to departure for Japan. Post-arrival Orientations CLAIR, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the host prefectures hold comprehensive orientations, which include workshops on topics such as lifestyle in Japan and work duties. Immediately after arrival in Tokyo, participants are taken to the Keio Plaza Hotel. A 3-day seminar sponsored by CLAIR and the Ministries is held in Tokyo before JETs depart for their home prefecture/designated city.
