What kind of training is included in the 300 hours? Is it inclusive of training for parole officers to help youth get resources?
The broad topical areas that the training will cover are Health, Communication, Youth Supervision, Legal Rights, Victim Rights, Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct, Ethics and Confidentiality, Diversity, and Safety to include Use of Force. The training modules are designed to provide knowledge to all TYC direct care staff, not just juvenile correctional officers. As the agency continues to develop new training topics and modules, it will developing training curricula that is more job specific. Training needs for non-correctional staff will be coordinated through the respective divisions. Staff development will be offered consistent with identified needs.
