What kind of surgery is necessary for a detached retina?
This will be a long answer. The eye has three basic layers. The outer layer, the white sclera becomes clear in the front, the cornea and the shape changes too. We look at someones eyes through the cornea and can see the colored part, the iris, which has a hole in the middle. The iris is connected or continuous with the choroid and is a vascular layer in the back of the eye on which the retina sits. The outer retina gets it’s nourishment from the choroid. The retina is the third layer or the inner lining of the 3 coats of the eye. The center cavity, the vitreous cavity is filled with vitreous gel, which becomes more and more liquid as we age (syneresis). Then the gel, the vitreous sloshes around more and more and will separate from the back of the eye where it just sort of lays against the wall or retinal surface. The front part of the vitreous is tightly attached to the front part of the retina. The retina is mostly a posterior tissue and it might be considered to start at the back of
