White gas (Coleman fuel) is the most common and readily available in Base Camp and at all backcountry commissaries. MAX fuel by Coleman is also popular and normally available but some crews report sporadic shortages of MAX fuel in Base Camp and at backcountry commissaries. When considering the use of MAX fuel stoves, check with Philmont on availability or find another method of securing the fuel you will need. Fuels such as kerosene, butane or denatured alcohol are not available in the backcountry.
