What kind of stability can I expect for thermistors and RTDs?
THERMISTORS It’s hard to put a number on it. Thermistors operated in excess of 125°C will experience significant drift. Drift increases exponentially with temperature and duration of exposure to elevated temperature. Humidity and thermal shock also contribute to drift. RTD’s RTD’s can also experience a certain amount of drift. However, they are much less susceptible to drift due to exposure at elevated temperatures than thermistors are. • What level of accuracy can I expect for thermistors and RTD’s? Thermistors are available in point match and interchangeable varieties. Point match can be as tight as 1% or higher, depending upon the material curve and R25 value. A typical interchangeability is ± 2°C over a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. However, a number of configurations are available with regard to tolerance and temperature range. RTD’s are classified by DIN specifications. DIN Class B is the most common, with a tolerance of ± 0.3°C at 0°C. Class A is also available upon request.
