What Kind Of Snake Is Green With Horizontal Black Stripes?

0

If this snake was seen in the southeastern US, it could be one of two species, one of which is actually a “mixed breed” of sorts. Eastern Garter Snakes(Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis) can be greenish with black horizontal stripes, but so can the so-called “Greenish” Rat Snake, a very common snake in the Carolinas and Georgia, which is actually a natural cross between the Black Rat Snake(Pantherophis obsoletta) and the Yellow Rat(Pantherophis quadravitatta). These snakes can be quite large and are often a dull olive green with black stripes, sometimes with faint blotches down the back.
