What kind of schooling and degree to Naturopathic Doctors achieve?
Naturopathic Physicians are required to attend an accredited four-year naturopathic medical college to achieve the doctoral degree of N.D., or Naturopathic Doctor. In Oregon and several other states in the United States, in order to obtain licensure to practice medicine, naturopaths must pass several medical board exams and are tested in the areas of basic sciences, clinical, physical and laboratory diagnosis, pharmacology, botanical medicine, physical medicine, nutrition, homeopathy and minor surgery, to name a few. Students entering an accredited naturopathic medical college will study the basic sciences and the human body and its pathologies primarily the first two years. Beginning the 3rd year of medical school, students pursuing an N.D. degree will begin to incorporate more in depth study of naturopathic healing modalities with the concentration of the various systems of the human body. Medical students are supervised on clinical shifts both at the school and in community clinics.
