This project evaluated the safety of the design and sponsored expert safety visits to the power plants to identify safety deficiencies and to make recommendations on how to solve them. The project grouped the deficiencies into so called “safety issues,” prioritised them and monitored their solutions through assistance provided by the EU, the World Bank, EBRD and bilateral agreements. The project concluded in 1998 with the resolution of the main safety issues.
