What Kind Of Rock Is A Pumice Rock?
Pumice is an igneous rock. It is a light coloured volcanic rock. Pumice rocks originate from the lava that is expelled out through the air during a volcanic eruption. As the gases escape, the rocks are left with holes. In fact, if you observe a pumice rock closely, you will see little gaps in the air, where air had been trapped. The pumice rock is so light that it can in fact, float on the water. After large eruptions, once can see big pumice rocks floating over the ocean. Pumice is a type of glass and not an amalgamation of minerals as most people think. Pumice rock is used as soap, a polisher and an abrasive cleanser.
