What kind of property can be acquired through Probate?
Anything that the deceased owned that was titled or required a signature to acquire must be legally disposed of through probate process. Typically, this includes Real Estate such as houses, apartment buildings, commercial and industrial property, as well as raw land. It also includes cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, checking accounts, stock certificates, investment accounts, and intellectual property such as copyrights, trademarks and patents. If a signature was required, that asset must go through probate. It is also possible to acquire additional items of value that are part of an estate, such as art, antiques, jewelry, sporting equipment, and other collectible items.
