What kind of poem is Casey at bat?
“Casey at the Bat” is a Mock Epic. Epic in that it is the story of a fallen hero; Mock in that it is not in the elegant, elevated language as in a traditional epic. Epics fall under the category of a Narrative poem, in that it tells a story with a beginning, middle, and end. There’s a setting, a main character, a conflict, a climax, and an outcome (resolution).
