What kind of plants can be grown in the Fairbanks/North Pole Alaska area?
You will not be able to grow most plants. I hear the ground can stay frozen all year round… So your best bet would be growing stuff from seeds in planters and pots or raised beds. Any vegetables you plant will need to yield below 65 days to be on the safe side.. You want to maximize the very long summer hours to get big yield crops. As for fruit trees forget it… your best luck is maybe very cold hardy crab apple. You may be able to have some success with cold hardy berries that are native with that region. Having a green house would help drastically in preparing your seedlings for summer season planting. If you could heat the green house in the winter you could possibly grow a few dwarf cold hardy apple trees inside :).
