What kind of planes does Island Air fly?
Island Air operates a fleet of ten 37-seat DASH-8 aircraft. These turboprop planes have earned a solid reputation for outstanding reliability and safety. The aircraft features all-leather seating, large overhead compartments, air conditioning, and comfortably pressurized cabins. They are ideal for high-frequency, short-haul routes that serve small community airports like those that Island Air serves. Island Air is also adding two 74-seat Q400 jetprops to its fleet in 2006. This aircraft offers superior comfort with wide body two-by-two seating, a quiet and spacious cabin, generous baggage space, and near jet-like speed. The maximum cruise speed of 360 knots allows the aircraft to make inter-island trips in times comparable to those of jets such as the Boeing 717 and 737, yet is more environmentally friendly and economical to operate because it is a turboprop and has low fuel consumption.
