What kind of MSL career training is available?
Right now, you basically go on the internet and type in the search query, “medical science liaison” and cross your fingers and pray that you get lucky to get quality information. This is because there is no “training” available for the MSL career. In the old days (and by “old” I mean in the 1980s and 1990s), if you had an expertise in a therapeutic area and an iota of interpersonal skills, you had a pretty good chance of becoming a medical science liaison. Not today. The odds of getting a MSL job is on par with winning the Olympics. And the pain of losing may be just as deep. I believe that some of you have the potential of being excellent MSLs. Maybe even managing MSLs and one day managing the MSL program itself. But if you don’t have a mixture of thorough preparation, networking savvy, stellar presentation of your complete MSL job application package, and LUCK (your own luck + market timing) – you may have what it takes to lead MSL programs down the road – but that’s not going to mat
