What kind of motorcycles are qualified for the tour and how must they be outfitted?
The motorcycles we have had the greatest success with are the BMW “GS” series of adventure-touring bikes. Airheads, oilheads, hexheads, or F650 singles, they’re all a great choice. They are also the most common choice by our rider/clients. All GlobeRiders staff and guides ride a BMW GS, and we purchased these ourselves, they were not donated to us through any sponsor relationship! Other models that have been on our tours include the Honda Transalp and Varadero, KTM 950 and 990 Adventures, and Kawasaki KLR 650. In regard to BMWs, although we welcome the F650 series bike, we do not feel that the G 650 Xchallenge, Xcountry or Xmoto are appropriate for the conditions we ride in. We do have high hopes for the new BMW F800GS. And of course, Helge rides an HP2! We are willing to consider any make or model so long as it is fundamentally in the same category/class as the models listed.
