What kind of men become Army officers?
I am married to an Army Officer. My husband’s family had served as junior ranks in the Navy since Nelson, but he broke the trend. He is from a good, solid, working class family, who made sacrifices to send him to the local grammar school and then to university and from there to Sandhurst. We live on a Senior Officers patch and the individuals here are as diverse as you would find in any neighbourhood. The common thread is that they are all educated to degree level, they all have a strong work ethic, a defined moral code and a sense of duty, and most of them come from Military families. Some regiments still, only accept those who are Public school educated (Blues & Royals/Lifeguards) but thankfully most have dropped the snobbery and state school educated Officers can now achieve senior ranks.
