What kind of maintenance does a chiminea require?
All our Chimineas have three coats of High Temp Paint. Repeated High Temp firings over time may reduce the effectivness of our factory paint. High Temp Paint is available at your local hardware store to repaint your chiminea when it becomes necessary. Cast Iron Chimineas that are not re-painted frequently need to be coated on the outside with vegetable oil so it is “cooked in” like any cast iron cookware. This should be done every ten or twelve firings to keep it rust free. We have tried both methods and painting a cast iron chimenea is the easiest. Bbq grill paint is readily available and it only takes a few minutes. Feel free to use any color you like, automotive stores are a good source for colored high temp paint. By sponging on colored paint after a few coats of black bbq paint your chimenea can be as unique as you want it.
