What kind of linseed oil can be used on horse tack?
Linseed oil is NOT the best kind of oil to use on leather, please use an oil that is specifically designed for leather or olive oil. The reason I say that Linseed oil is not good for leather is because of it’s drying properties. It is more of a top coat finish that seals the leather (the stuff that makes the leather shiny) so not much of a conditioner. Olive oil is not vegetable oil and doesn’t leave a “coat” on your leather; it’s very easily absorbed and conditions the leather well even with some of the oldest cracked leather (I’ve tried it).
