What kind of length measures can be used?
Length measures used for trade must be stamped by an Inspector of Weights and Measures (Trading Standards Officer) to verify that they have been tested for accuracy. The stamp consists of a crown, a date and the inspector’s number. It must be made of suitable material, be resistant to corrosion and be strong enough to withstand the wear and tear of trade use. Rigid wooden (or similar material) measures must have metal tips on the end if the scale marks start at the end (rather than having a gap between end and zero graduation), in order to prevent wear and tear. If the equipment you are using is not stamped, please contact your local Trading Standards Department for further advice.
