What kind of leather is used on baseballs?
A. Full grain alum tanned cowhide is used on all baseballs. Two distinct grades of cowhide is used. The very best grade, known as heart of the hide, comes from the shoulders, back, and rear end of the cow and is used on all of the cushioned cork center baseballs. The second grade of less expensive leather comes from the sides and belly of the cow and is used on the cork and rubber center models and the solid center models of baseballs.
