What kind of language policy does the Philippines have?
The Philippines has an explicit, restrictive, preferential language policy without jurisdictional distinctions. The basis of the Philippine National Language Policy is explicitly stated in Sections 6 to 9 of Article XIV of the 1987 Constitution. The rights of linguistic minorities are not explicitly stated (although the state is required to recognize, respect and protect the rights of minorities to preserve and develop their cultures). The preferred language (in this case, the national language known as “Filipino”) is favored in almost all aspects.
