What kind of key benefits of breastfeeding are important for moms to share with other moms?
I feel that the benefits of breastfeeding for babies are emphasized, and everyone knows that breastmilk is good for babies. But what I think people are less likely to know, and what isn’t emphasized nearly enough is that there are great benefits for moms, too. And the other thing that is very critical is that we really need moms to see the reality of the first six weeks postpartum. I think it’s too idealized and we don’t talk enough about the lack of sleep and the fact that the breastfed baby will nurse pretty much all the time and that’s normal. I think moms walk into it with unrealistic expectations because we don’t do a good job of talking about the reality of the first few weeks. Becoming a new parent is hard initially but it gets easier after that; breastfeeding is a part of that, and I think moms should be really honest and talk about their experiences so that other moms know what to expect. This way, new moms don’t worry about what is normal newborn behavior and don’t feel like
