What kind of investigations does the Office of Inspector General (OIG) conduct?
The OIG conducts and supervises independent and objective audits relating to all programs and operations of DOL and recommends policies and procedures which promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in program administration. The OIG conducts investigations of employee misconduct and alleged or suspected criminal violations of laws, rules, or regulations pertaining to DOL programs, operations, and appropriated funds by DOL employees, contractors, and grantees. Complainants are protected against reprisal for making complaints or providing information to the OIG. The OIG investigates the influence of organized crime and labor racketeering on employee benefit funds, labor-management relations, and internal union affairs. The OIG is required to expeditiously report to the Attorney General whenever there are reasonable grounds to believe that Federal criminal laws have been violated.
