What kind of Internet access is available on campus?
The residence halls and the rest of campus have somewhat separate Internet access. Each student is allocated 768K of bandwidth – about ∏ of a T1 line. We are hoping to increase that bandwidth in the near future. In the residence halls, each student has a wired connection. The halls have a total of 45 MB/s of service, with the campus having a total of 60 MB/s of service. This Internet service is managed, meaning no peer-to-peer traffic is permitted to leave the college. This is to eliminate any chance of music/video piracy. More than 200 wireless access points are installed across campus. Wireless access is available in all areas of the residence halls, apartments and townhouses. Wireless is also available in all parts of: Old Main; Ylvisaker Library; Campus Center; Hvidsten Hall; Olin Hall; and Lorentzsen Hall. The other academic buildings have some wireless available in public areas and selected classrooms. Olin Hill also has outdoor wireless coverage.
