What kind of information will be available on the euro from January 1 1999?
The value of the euro against the Irish pound will be fixed on 1 January 1999 and will be widely publicised. Also, there will be dual display of Irish pound and euro prices in many areas, such as on-line game tickets from the National Lottery, scratch card tickets, bank statements and Telecom Eireann telephone bills (and ESB and An Bord Gais bills from mid-1999). From spring 1999, tax-free allowance (TFA) certificates from the Revenue Commissioners will show annual and weekly/monthly TFA amounts in both Irish pounds and euro Television licences and renewal notices will show the licence fee in both Irish pounds and euro as soon as possible in 1999, and the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs will produce leaflets during 1999 showing social welfare payment rates in both Irish pounds and euro. The main body supplying information will be the Euro Changeover Board of Ireland will be providing more information.
