What kind of illegal activities was Nixon involved in during the Watergate scandal?
Despite popular belief, Nixon did not order his cabinet members to infiltrate Watergate. What originally got him into trouble was giving them permission to try and cover it up. He was lawfully required to contact the authorities the instant he was knowledgeable of the crime. In okaying them the chance to make it disappear, he became an associated part of the illegal activity. People up roared, stating that it was Nixon’s idea in the first place. He denied that, just as he denied any conversations taking place where he said the cabinet were allowed to cover it up. He maintained that he had no idea about the Watergate whats so ever. A secretary that once worked for him told the police that he had a tape recorder taped to the bottom of his desk, and he recorded every single conversation ever held in the Oval Office on that tape. The Supreme Court ordered Nixon, with a subpoena, to give them the tapes. He bluntly denied, claiming that as the President he had the right to withhold the tapes
