What kind of high school reform is needed to meet the needs of all students?
This was selected as Best Answer High school reform is indeed necessary. I work closely everyday with college students, the vast majority of whom are graduates of the American high school system. I also work with international students who are much better prepared for college than their American counterparts. I have long argued that American students know their own minds at about 15 or 16 and keeping them in failing high schools fails all of us. So, let us adopt a more European model that offers students the opportunity to attend college earlier and stay in academics if they so choose, but also that allows them to make the choice to attend a technical school and learn something “practical,” such as auto mechanics or plumbing. Those types of jobs will always be available and academics will become more exclusive and less watered down than it is now. And, if the aptitude or desire to be an academic comes later on in life–as it often does after adolescence–then the door should also be op
