What kind of freaky weather is this ash cloud going to bring, if any?

The last time we had a big ash cloud like this one (Icelandic volcano erupts etc) was way back in I think c1980 when Mt St. Helens erupted in Washington State – from memory it caused at least two bad summers (mostly dull) here in UK – guess same elsewhere. The dust rolls right up into the upper atmosphere and stays there. It will only come down if it gets mixed up with a load of water vapour and returns to Earth as rain. In other words, we’re stuck with the dust cloud for a long time. via Google http://www.google.com/search?q=how%20lon… Think we’re in for the long haul – this is the worst anyone can remember.
