What kind of fishing rod do i need for fishing for bluefin and yellowfin tuna?

For a minimum I would use 50lb tackle, with a good 50lb rated stand up rod and a matching stand up harness (I use braid). If you are targeting bft I wouldn’t use anything less than a penn international 80 with appropriate rod (I have an 80 single speed for that purpose with an international stand up rod). Tuna will find any weak link in your tackle and will be more than happy to point it out to you by destroying your tackle. When fighting tuna you can not give them even a seconds rest, line must either be going out with as heavy a drag as the situation will allow, or coming in as fast as you can reel or you will never land them. Being able to change your drag in a split second is important too, and knowing what your drag settings are, hence the need for lever drag as opposed to a star drag. Tuna fishing can be very dangerous, (at least bft) so know what you are doing, and learn how to use heavy tackle, one thing you will learn is that you don’t hold the rod, put your free hand on top o
