A two-year college A.A. degree is recommended to work in this field, but sometimes dental labs train beginners who have taken only a few dental courses. With an A.A. degree in a dental technician program though your salary will rise more quickly and you will have more opportunities to specialize in fields you prefer.

Make sure the program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association (ADA). Finally, you should receive certification in your specialty from the National Board for Certification.
