What kind of diseases causes babies aged 0-1 to die?
From what I understand about SIDS, and the research I did was about 5 years ago is that is many cases a child sleeping on their side or belly causes the inhaled air to be much warmer than room temperature because it is warmed by the childs body temperature in blankets or by close proximity to the mattres. This warmed air can spur the rapid growth of staf and punumonia bacteria in the fragile underdeveloped lungs of an infant whose immune system is not fully developed either. This theory didnt answer all SIDS cases obviously but the strong correlation was sound. Best advice is still to put babies to sleep on their backs and not to cover them with thick blankets to reduce SIDS.
Many diseases are transmitted to the baby from the mother during pregnancies. One that used to be very very popular and is now almost extinct in the USA is called Rubella. Thankfully, we found a vaccination for it that every baby gets twice (including you most likely!). When a pregnant woman catches it, it’s just like the chicken pox… But when she delivers, there’s a high chance her baby will have a condition called CRS (congenital rubella syndrome) which will either kill or permanently damage the baby.
