What kind of diploma / degree does one need to become an archaeologist ?
Archaeology is an incredibly varied field of study and each specialty requires a different diploma / degree. Ancient Egyptian archaeologists will generally have a Ph.D. in Egyptology. Archaeologists studying Greece and Rome have a degree in Classics, possibly offered by the department of Classical Studies. Scholars specialised in prehistoric archaeology will often have a degree in archaeology offered in a department of Anthropology.
