What kind of details did Police Sgt Crowley give about the meeting with Obama and Gates?
From MSNBC we have video of a press conference yesterday with Sgt James Crowley, the Cambridge police officer who was said by President Barack Obama to have “acted stupidly” in arresting Obama’s friend and campaign contributor Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. When Gates locked himself out of his own home, a neighbor saw Gates and another individual attempting to break into the house, but did not recognize Gates as the occupant of the home. When Sgt. Crowley arrived and attempted to identify Gates (normal police procedure in any similar instance), Gates came unglued. He started yelling, making accusations of racism from Sgt Crowley and was very uncooperative. Because he would not calm down, he was subsequently arrested for disorderly conduct (charges were later dropped after Gates cooled off).
