What kind of compensation and/or assistance will be provided to affected “bamboo railway” transport operators (BRTOs)?
A. A total of 189 BRTOs were identified in 2006. The 105 BRTOs considered severely affected (the main source of income is from operating bamboo rail vehicles) will be entitled to a one-time payment of $200 and 1-3 months living allowance ($25 per month) during the transition period. The remaining 84 BRTOs who do not derive their main source of income from operating bamboo rail vehicles will be entitled to $200 and one month living allowance ($25). The Project will also build access roads for local transportation (where there are no access roads), to restore the income of the BRTOs and provide access to markets and social services for the local communities.
