What kind of commitment has Tata Motors made to JLR’s workforce?
Land Rover has been making great profits. Jaguar has suffered over the past few years because of an old product range. We just launched the new Jaguar XF a few weeks ago. We don’t really think that Tata has to do much more than continue investing in the current business plan, which goes forward for the next five to seven years, with new products coming out. Ford may have made a massive mistake selling JLR at this time after all the money it had invested. Jaguar was just turning the corner—about to go into profitability. Tata is going to reap the benefits from everything that Ford did. They bring a sense that if finance is required, finance will be there. What was the understanding between Unite and Tata (and Ford), prior to the definitive agreement, specifically on the maintenance of plants and the workforce size?
